Magical Blogorail Yellow: 3 Must Do’s at Star Wars Weekends

Welcome to those of you joining me from A Disney Mom’s Thoughts and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the Final stop on our Magical Blogorail.”

Hello everyone! How many of you know about Star Wars Weekend? Have you ever been? What Did you think about it? I went for the first time last year and thought it was amazing! Im not a HUGE Star Wars fan but I do love the movies.

Even if you are a very small Star Wars fan there is so much to do for everyone. In this post I will be telling you my 3 Must Do’s at Star Wars Weekend. So lets get STARted!

1. You must see Jedi Mickey Mouse! I love Mickey, and always have. After all, “its all started with a mouse”! I know there are tons of characters dressed in their Star Wars attire but there is something very special about seeing The Mouse as a Jedi. TIP: This line gets long so try to get to the park early to see Jedi Mickey!

2. Visit the Darth Mall. You know Disney goes over-the-top with merchandise and they do it even more with Star Wars Merchandise. The Darth Mall is HUGE! there is so much stuff to buy that its hard to even comprehend. I have never seen this much Star Wars stuff in my life. TIP: When you go to the Darth Mall get a custom name tag. These name tags will run you about $10 but its written in the Star Wars language and you can pick your home location from various choices such as, Death Star, Naboo, and Tatooine.

3. My last Must Do is to meet a Princess. But not just any Princess, Princess Leia! Yes, in the Darth Mall you can meet Princess Leia. I had no idea until we walked in and saw the line. Definitely a great Photo Op! TIP: Like most character meet and greets, the line can get long so be sure to arrive at the Darth Mall early to get a great picture!

Well those are some of the fun that awaits you at Star Wars Weekend in Disney’s Hollywood Studio. If you are going to Star Wars Weekend be sure to have tons of fun! TIP: Once Hollywood Studios closes tons of people come to Magic Kingdom since it is still open, so you may see a crowd increase once Star Wars Weekend is done for the day, they all seemed to head towards me at Space Mountain. Maybe they like the theme of Space? Well thanks for watching and I hope you all have a BLAST!!!

Blue Name-Tags at the Walt Disney World Resort

ImageIf you have been to Disney World you know that there are tons of Cast Members who do so many incredible things for so many people each and every day. Each Cast Member has their own role whether it be operating Space Mountain or just simply selling Mickey Bars to a little princess. However there is one thing we all have in common, we all have a Name tag. Yes, I know what you’re saying, they are all different. This is true, almost no two name tags are alike since each name tag has either a College/University on it or a hometown. To the right is mine and I think it looks pretty snazzy…do you?

However have you ever seen someone wearing a blue name tag in Disney World? If so, what did you think at first? Did you think it was a fake worn by a guest? Well I did. I had to ask a leader what the blue name tags were about and I learned a lot and would love to share with you all today some of what I learned.

With most jobs being recognized for doing outstanding work is what makes working hard fun, well with the Disney Parks that too implies. Disney Parks have been recognizing Cast Members for years who are the truest to the Disney Spirit. For example in the past at Walt Disney World a Cast Member could win the, Partners in Excellence Award. If a Cast Member won this award they wold receive a pin to add to their name tag. A similar award was available to Disneyland Cast Members called, the Spirit of Disneyland award. Like the Partners in Excellence award they would receive a pin for their name tag. To this day you can still see white name tags in the parks with these pins on them, but most likely you will see Cast Members with only one pin on their name tag. This pin is  a recognition of how long they have worked for the company, or a service pin. A pin is given to a Cast Member for 1, 5, 10, 15…years and so on, this pin is on the left when looking at a name tag, where as a recognition pin is always on the right when looking at a name tag. Phil Holmes, Vice President of the Magic Kingdom has a 40 year pin, one of the very select few to be with Disney World since opening day in 1971. Do you know what attraction he opened in 1971? Haunted Mansion!

Moving on to present day, the blue name tags. What are they? Why blue? The blue name tags are a result of a new recognition award in the Disney Parks around the world, The Legacy Award. Cast Members who receive the Legacy Award are selected by their leaders and fellow co-workers. These Cast Members always and constantly Dream, Create and Inspire, supporting the goals and objectives of the Disney Parks and Resorts around the world. Now, why blue? The names tags are blue with white lettering, the opposite of a traditional name tag. The point behind this is to stand out. With the old award systems the pins never stood out. With a name tag being blue it stands out very well and is a very easy conversation piece for a guest, it is also a great opportunity for a Cast Member to proudly brag for a few moments.

Well thats most of what I learnt and I hope the next time you go to a Disney Park you see a blue name tag, and if you do tell the Congratulations, they will really appreciate it and who know what you might get!

Magical Blogorail: Favorite Holiday “Plus”

Magical Blogorail YellowWelcome to those of you joining me from Return to Disney. I am the final stop on our Magical Blogorail.

Wow, I cant believe its already December. This year has literally flown by. In January I was living in WDW working for Space Mountain, now I’m back in TN hoping to return again in January. I guess my parents were right, time sure does fly when you get older.

Any who its holiday time which means all the Disney parks are decorated for Christmas! Although I have never seen WDW for the holidays I have seen plenty of pictures and youtube videos to know that it is beyond beautiful.

If i was to say my favorite holiday “plus” would be I would have to say the Cinderella Dream Lights on Cinderella’s Castle. The castle itself is already outstandingly beautiful, there is not a lot more that can be done to make it look pretty. Wow was I wrong. When you see the castle turn from its ordinary day self into its icy sparkling holiday self, it will blow your mind. It is truly so beautiful that it can bring a tear to your eye.

I think that going that extra step to make the castle decorated and made into something so marvelous is a great example of how Disney can create the perfect “plus” for the holidays. Thanks so much for reading!!

Magical Blogorail Blue: Disney Scene To Attraction!

Welcome to those of you joining me from Capturing Magical Memories and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 3rd stop on our Magical Blogorail.

Welcome everyone to another Magical Blogorail post on Magik Mouse! I am so happy to say that this week I am writing for the Blue loop! However don’t fret, I am still on the Yellow loop!!

This weeks topic is to choose a scene from a Disney movie and turn it into a ride. As we know Disney does a fantastic job at turning movie ideas into rides/attractions. An example for me would have to be Tower of Terror.

If I was to choose a scene from any movie to create into an attraction, I would choose the fast paced door scene from Monsters, INC. I love that scene and have always wished that would maybe one day become a ride. Heres how the ride could go…

courtesy of Bing images

The entire ride is a dark ride/ thrill ride you start out moving slow and sitting in a vehicle that represents a random door. You are moving slow and going through, “storage” processes until your entire vehicle starts to shake and you hear Mike and Sully. It is then when you realized that they have just jumped onto your door and now the fun is about to start. Suddenly do to Mike and Sully changing the tracks you start to go faster and faster and to taking turns and going down hills to compete with Space Mountain. Then once the fast paced time of the ride is don’t it becomes a slow moving dark ride again to end by an animatronic scene with Boo, Mike and Sully.

This is just a silly ideas. Whatcha think? Thanks for reading with me!!

Thank you for joining me today. Your next stop on the Magical Blogorail Loop is Pursuing The Magic.

A Hidden Kiss

Everyone knows that when it comes to castle shows that Disney is by far the best at this. From their skill and artist visions that paint “Wishes” in the night sky to the new and highly technological castle projection show, “The Magic, The Memories and You.” Even the heart moving “Dream Along with Mickey” show has the Disney touch throughout with its precision timed fireworks and brilliant dancers.

However there is a castle show that most seem to miss since it is not done until the Magic Kingdom closes. This show is called “Kiss Goodnight”. The show is done to the tune of When You Wish Upon a Star in the background and turns the castle into a beautiful sparkling multi colored wonder that one must see for themselves.  Towards the end as you hear Mickey wish you a goodnight and a safe journey home, the last verse of When You Wish Upon a Star starts to sing to make this a magical evening by far.

If you have a chance on your next visit to the Magic Kingdom, be sure to keep a look out for this show. This is truly a treasure worth finding.
